Prophets

Sermon Notes

Ephesians 4:11-16 (NLT) 11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and
build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our
faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full
and complete standard of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so
clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way
more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. 16 He makes the whole body
fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow,
so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

God gave gifts to the church so that we can HELP each other, BUILD each other, SERVE each
other, TEACH each other and LOVE each other.

A prophet serves to LISTEN to the voice of God and PASS on the message.

1 Corinthians 14: 1-4 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.
2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he
utters mysteries in the Spirit. 3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for
their upbuilding (strengthening) and encouragement and consolation (comfort). 4 The one who
speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church.

1 Corinthians 14:12 (NIV) Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that
build up the church.

Natural Evidence of Prophetic gifts:
1) Ability to STRENGTHEN
2) Ability to ENCOURAGE
3) Ability to COMFORT

Not everyone who has a PROPHETIC gift has the PASTORAL gift.

Your calling as a prophet is to bring a message, it is up to the PERSON to take the message and
apply it.
