God Helps Those

Sermon Note

[Proverbs 6:6-11] Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! [7] Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, [8] they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter. [9] But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? [10] A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest-- [11] then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

God is able to help ANYONE He wants.

Following Jesus is about living a SELFLESS life.

[Titus 3:4-5] But--"When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, [5] he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.

We can't rely on ourselves or our actions for our SALVATION.

God helps those who take ACTION.

[James 2:26] Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.

God helps those who are HUMBLE.

[James 4:6] But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, "God opposes the proud but favors the humble."

God helps those who CANNOT help themselves.

[Isaiah 25:4] But you are a tower of refuge to the poor, O LORD, a tower of refuge to the needy in distress. You are a refuge from the storm and a shelter from the heat. For the oppressive acts of ruthless people are like a storm beating against a wall.

God helps those who ASK.

[James 4:2c] Yet you don't have what you want because you don't ask God for it.

God helps those who help OTHERS.

[Luke 6:38 NIV] Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
