Rescued from Death

Sermon Notes

Jesus came to defeat DEATH through the resurrection.

[1 John 4:9-10] God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. [10] This is real love--not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

We can't have PEACE until we have been rescued.

[Romans 5:6-8] When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. [7] Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. [8] But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

You CANNOT save yourself.

[Luke 24:1-7] But very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. [2] They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. [3] So they went in, but they didn't find the body of the Lord Jesus. [4] As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes. [5] The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, "Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? [6] He isn't here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, [7] that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day."

The stone was rolled away to show us that our rescue was COMPLETE.

The EMPTY TOMB is the ultimate symbol of God’s power over death.

[Ephesians 2:4-5] But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, [5] that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God's grace that you have been saved!)

Death is not the END for those who put their FAITH in Jesus.

[Colossians 1:13-14] For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, [14] who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
