Saved for What

Sermon Notes

1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Our works can’t clean us from the stain of sin.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

God saved us to do good.

James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

While works don’t save us, they are evidence of our salvation.

Good works are not meant to show people how good we are.

Ephesians 4:22-24 Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Good works are the supernatural ability to do what God would have us do, contrary to our own nature.

1 John 3:16 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

We are saved to become like Christ.
