Prince of Peace

Sermon Notes

[Isaiah 9:6-7] For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [7] His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven's Armies will make this happen!

The Messiah would bring peace that would NEVER END.

[Luke 2:13-14] Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others--the armies of heaven--praising God and saying, [14] "Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased."

SHALOM (peace) is about having peace with God.

Mark 4:38-40 ESV But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”

Jesus gives peace in the MIDDLE of the storm, not just AFTER it.

[Ephesians 2:17-18] He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near. [18] Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.

Peace isn't the absence of CONFLICT.

Jesus is the only one who can bring peace between US and GOD.

[Colossians 3:15] And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

God wants us to REFLECT His peace to a CHAOTIC world.

[John 14:27] "I am leaving you with a gift--peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid.

Jesus give us the peace OF God and gives us peace WITH God.
